“I'm a worshiper” that's what Dana Mackey express during an interview held in www.CombinationTV.com and also in an interview with Christopher Heron for www.BlackGospel.com. Her career start as an organist from the St. John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, this helped her to be known through the local community, but the acceptance she has through the states has been more powerful, with four awards nominations to back her up as a great artist and as a great performer, this minister from the heart will seduce your spirit to introduce you at the same holy place with God.
Native from Tampa FL, her family raised her in music since she was a child. Raised in a single parent atmosphere with strong love for God, her mother Renee Jordan, grandparents Rev. Alto Waters and Mother Ollie Lee Water and her. As an only child, she learn to be determine, independent and to love God and praise Him. With the fear of the Lord in her heart, she is grateful of being able to dedicate her talent to the Lord because as she said: “I was created to Praise”.
Her career in music is full of important experiences, has participated in Conferences and Churches throughout the United States of North America, opening guest in many concerts for renounce artists, appeared in many television shows where she had the opportunity to perform her music. Was nominated in 2007 for two EnSound Music Awards as “Female Vocalist Of The Year” and “Album Of The Year”, in 2008 a Newsome Awards nomination for “Best Album Packaging Of The Year” and recently she received another nomination for the first round of 2008-2009 Stellar Awards Nomination for “New Artist Of The Year”.
Her new album is a combination of praise and worship, full of power and rhythm that drive your spirit into an spiritual atmosphere. This project took her almost four years to conceive, was in 2005 where she felt the call to start this amazing journey. With the support and collaboration of the skillful musician Ernest Collins, former music director of Orlando's Faith World Church, they create an uplifting contemporary praise and worship sound.
A powerful songwriter and a very talented performer, this two qualities gave her the idea for the name of the Album. She always writes from her heart as she praises from the heart. The main themes of her songs are experiences and momentums that drive her into a strong encounter, spiritually speaking, with God. As many times mentioned by Dana in many other interviews: “I am a worshiper. Worship is an important part of my life with God, flows natural from me to give honor to God and the thirst for His presence is essential for my being”.
Is incredible to believe she was so shy, when she was 19th she played her organ for various churches and even though many church members and friends request her to lead some songs with the choirs, she preferred to praise God with her organ in the background. Afraid to express herself openly. But this changes in the last few years. Thanks for this we can be blessed with her talent and her Album “With Praises From The Heart”.
At the present time Dana is part of the music ministry at Grace Outreach Center in Brooksville, FL from Pastor David and Nellie Gracía.
