“El Invicto (The Undefeated)” Is the title of the first production of this talented soldier. The first time that we spoke with him I noticed his jovial personality and his profound love for God. A grateful young person spite of the hard life that preceded him.
God Today FN had the opportunity to interview him and was a brilliant and refreshing experience. This is our interview.
GTFN: Who is Jay C Cartier?
Jay C: He is a singer with a ministry of urban Christian music (Reggaeton, Rap and Hip-Hop).
GTFN: Why the name Jay C Cartier?
Jay C: My name is Julio Carmelo, reason why in the first opportunities and productions I was called like J.C. Soon I adopted this name with a variant of Jay C, and Cartier I used it as adornment, giving it a luxurious touch; we know of jewelry and cars with this name, I am a fanatic of cars also, so I take the same name, mainly by the car. Here is when Jay C Cartier was born, as symbol of excellence for our God with an urban touch.
GTFN: How everything began?
Jay C: When I was 12 I began to write my music when the Reggaeton was simply a style of the street. Soon the Gentleman transformed my lyrics and transformed my music, from negative and destructive to a spiritual point of view.
When I turned 16th I recognized Christ like my rescuer, before simply I wrote according to what I understood it was real. But God showed a better life to me, full of opportunities.
Since then I was convinced to change my music’s lyrics. I do not say that I am pioneering because we all know that the pioneers of Christian urban music in Spanish were BK Rap, G.O.S, M.C. Charles and other singers from Orlando Florida USA where the urban Christian movement was originated. They were my example, but the one that really inspired me was the first Christian record of Vico C, because it was the key to teach to me that it is really possible to be changed and to be different; to be positive.
I have 10 years in the ministry, began working with other singers like Manny Montes, Big Willie and Otoniel (group from Philadelphia). I have participated in different productions, not only of Rap and Reggaeton, also in “Salsa” music productions with the singer Eddie G, Pastor in the city of Orlando. I shared with the ministry Double Impact and Omar Vélez, with whom I learned to sing as pair. Nowadays I congregate in the church “Pabellón de la Victoria” of Pastor Rubén Pérez, who has been like a father to me.
GTFN: Which you feel is the main call for Jay C Cartier?
Jay C: To demonstrate the world as God can obtain with us great things in spite of the circumstances.
I was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, and raised in the city of Bayamón. My parents moved to the city of New York when I was infant. I returned to PR to my 3th year when my parents separated; my father move to PR along with me. At 7th year I suffered the loss of my father as a result of the criminal wave that wrapped the small island of Puerto Rico. Is then when my grandmother, from my father’s side of the family, which I always will call Mother, took care of me, because my mother never appeared anymore. The death of my father affected my grandmother so hard that her condition of diabetes consumed her. At my 14th year my grandmother passed away, October 1st 1996.
Is when my uncles, Angel Luis Arroyo and his wife Wanda de Jesús, the only ones who served Christ in my father’s family, took care of me. They took me to the State of Florida, a very difficult transition for me, because I didn’t accustom to the lifestyle. But God help me through this too. Today I am father of a boy… Angel Julian, my 5 years old son. And I am a very proud father. So proud that in July 13th 2008 I released my first production, Jay C Cartier “El Invicto”, because it was the day that was born my son, which does of this date one of much significance for me.
GTFN: Why “The Undefeated”?
Jay C: I want that everybody know that does not matter how low can be the circumstances in life, Christ gaves us the power of being “Undefeated”. That’s why I call my Record Company “El Invicto Record”. In my first productions new artists like Ruby, Marilyn (my better friend), and Ivan 2 Filoz sing with me. Other musical producers that sing with me in the CD are Yanel and Manases. It was a challenge of 5 years already fulfilled.
GTFN: Some other project in mind?
Jay C: I am producing a CD for the singer “Marilyn”, an urban singer who began in times of G.O.S. I helped her with her first simple and because she noticed how hard I have fought to end my first production, motivated her to let me produce her next record along with me. What it makes it a challenge because the style of Marilyn is more R&B, Hip-Hop and Rap. So we will see how it goes that project, and it being produced by “El Invicto Record”.
Soon I have my second production, in which I have several songs already. This project will include different singers from the urban genre along with my participation, in which I count with the participation of Manny Montes, Alex Zurdo, Bengie, Willie and Otoniel among others, it will be a mix of artist of the United States and Puerto Rico. This project will not be only of Reggaeton, but also Hip Hop, Ballenato with Reggaeton…. Well, is going to be great - Jay C resume.
GTFN: Is it Jay C ready for the international propaganda?
Jay C: Yes, because the one that prepares is Christ and He is always prepared. If I must go to Japan or China I will do it.
GTFN: The production will be able to be obtained in the Internet?
Jay C: We are in plans for it. But I don’t have it yet.
GTFN: What would you advice to the young talents that are starting now?
Jay C: My better advice is to stay humble. To remember that this is a call not a position. There are going to be many problems and challenges. Stay in the right way and recognize that the Glory belongs to God and not to us.
GTFN: How can you be contacted for presentations or projects for your Record Production?
407-283-0064 or 407-729-5913 for show contracts, For “El Invicto” Record can contact me by email or my MySpace.
As you can see, Jay C Cartier has an occupied agenda. Many future plans. He is not only producing his own record, but it has created his own Record Seal, “El Invicto” Record, in which already has begun to produce records for other artists. Although his music style is Reggaeton, his Record Seal will produces for all styles.
If you have a project with a different vision then you know on whom you can count on.
We congratulate Jay C Cartier by his success and we will pray God that Jay be bless so he can bless others.
