During the years the ecclesiastical system has changed according to changes in our society. Young as much as adult people have dedicated their lives to make possible that the word of God is spread actively and vividly. But, by own experience, I have seen as these changes also have brought debates and fights between churches and even, between the same members of the temples.
Has not been different with integration from the Urban style within the church, known popularly like Hip Hop or Rap. The urban style has been developed by more than 20 years, although it thinks that their roots come from the ancestors of our Afro-American brothers, from the beginning of music in the old world, specifically of the African Continent. Its unique style has brought much controversy and simultaneously it has been of much blessing rescuing young people from drugs and the street fights. It’s believed that many street gangs changed their fights with challenges of street dances where each gang competes by sovereignty with the dance of “break dancing”, “grunch” and other styles that have been developed through the years from the urban style.
In the middle of these controversies, God has raised Christian young people with the desire to help those which lives are chained by the vices of this life. Among these people we have met Daniel Martinez, 22 years old, who felt from God the desire to train a Christian group of dancers in the urban dance style, called “Living Beings” –Seres Vivientes. The name “Living Beings” is inspired by the living beings appointed in Revelations 4:6-8 that have different forms, characteristics and styles but their main goal is to adore God, “we are enthusiastic worshippers for Jesus and with our different style the unique thing that we want is to glorify and to raise the name of the Holy, Holy, Holy God the all powerful one, the one who was, the who is and the one that is to come”.
“I’m a member of the Central Baptist Church of Barranquilla Colombia. I have been a member for 22 years of the church, 10 of these years I participate as an active member in the Ministry of Dance “Flames of Fire” and God give me 7 years ago the privilege to be the dance teacher and share this talent in different churches. The dance until that time was only Jewish messianic, Hebrew and contemporary, that is the symbolic dance, tambourines, flags, ribbons, etc.” Comments us Daniel.
Using videos and films, the group began to incorporate the urban techniques with music of popular Hispanic singers like Marcos Witt and Jesus Adrián Romero. “At first it caused displeasure for some type of people with traditional and religious convictions but the time and the evangelistic fruits that the dance in God produced, they began to accept them” emphasizes Daniel. The group began to gain fame through local churches thus began to receive many invitations including secular circles. This because the excellent work; fruit of group efforts.
“God has given us the privilege to dance and to share platform with Jaime Murrell, Luigy Castro, Alex Campos y Misión Vida, Ingrid Rosario, Funky Town, GC Willy and JG of Redimi2 Records and several more local ministers”.
The group has been of a big blessing from it’s beginnings in which Daniel describes it like which it has served as point of the spear in his country. The goal as a group is to reach the nations. Thus he has been selective as far as his members, since the same must have a prepared heart, hard leadership, an extreme love by God and able to caught the urban steps quickly.
Originally this group consisted of four members of the Central Baptist Church, two of Cristianos Church, two of Centro Bíblico Internacional, and one of the El Camino Church. At the moment they consist of six active members which are Daniel Martinez, Indira Beleño, Adolfo Balaguera, Cindy Gutiérrez (all of the Central Baptist Church of Barranquilla), Alberto Cepeda (Cristianos Church), William (Centro Bíblico Internacional).
At this moment “Living Beings” are in search for sponsorship, developing a book and a video project. They are also preparing, for the video project, the song “Living Beings” negotiating with Ixoye Record to produce it.
Each member of “Living Beings” is an asset of their community and church. Young people full of the love of God and prepared to be guided by the infinite purpose of God. For those wanting to know more of this group of talented people can visit them through Facebook, type “Seres Vivientes” in the search bar to look for the group where you will be able to see videos and photos of them in action.
Seres Vivientes, grow strong and that the blessings of God be with you always.
